Opened in 1993, the Somerset County Jail has inmate visiting on Sunday, Monday and Thursday thru Saturday from 8:30am to 3:30pm. With visitation, there are rules that must be followed. No one under 18 years of age are allowed to visit a inmate unless they received a written permission form from a parent. If they received a permission form, they must be accompanied by a person 21 years of age or older. Visitor lists are kept confidential. No drugs, weapons and alcohol are allowed on the premises. If you are caught with these items, you will be arrested and prosecuted. Once arrested and prosecuted, you will never be allowed in any state institution again. No cash or checks are allowed during visits. You must follow all rules to keep the staff, inmates and yourself safe at all times.
Physical contact is allowed but only a kiss and a hug when you arrive and leave. Your vehicle is logged with the make and model. The license plate will also be logged each and every time you visit. The guards may search your vehicle and your belongings at random. If you do not allow this, the local police department will be called and you will not be allowed to visit again. If an inmate has been sentenced by the court and has good behavioral standings, you may be eligible for work release programs. If you are eligible and you do a great job, this will show you are taking responsibility for your own rehabilitation. The Somerset County Jail employs a staff of approximately 100 to 249 people. They offer health services, federal correctional services, judicial services and juvenile services. The sheriff's office serves summons and operates the county jail.
