Ocean County Jail  

The Ocean County Jail is located in Tom's River, New Jersey. The jail, as it stands, holds between 500-550 inmates at this time. However, they are in the process of getting the necessary license to increase the maximum occupancy to 684 or more. Ocean County Jail houses all of the grown offenders that are arrested in Ocean County. The jail is under the direct jurisdiction of the Ocean County Board of Freeholders.

There are four services that are in place at the jail to benefit the inmates. The first one is the Physical Plant, which is, the division responsible for life safety, compliance monitoring, building inspection and repairs. The second service division is, Institutional Services. They provide correctional personnel, and are responsible for the inmate food service. They are also in charge of inmate supplies, laundry, and commissary. The third service department is, the Health Care Services. This department is in charge of providing all inmates with proper health care from a health care company which is under contract with the jail. The fourth and last unit is the Program Services unit. This unit is in charge of, substance abuse counseling, educational programs, individual counseling, intake orientation, and vocational guidance, just to name a few.

Inmates of the Ocean County Jail are not allowed to receive visitors for the first 72 hours that they are incarcerated. After this initial period, visitation is according to last name. During the weekdays it is broken up by the last names beginning with A-F on Monday from 6-9pm, last names G-L on Tuesday from 6-9pm, last names M-R on Wednesday 6-9pm, last names S-Z on Thursday from 6-9pm. There is visitation on the weekend as well.

In conclusion, this jail may be small in comparison to some other housing facilities around the country, but it is a secure, safe environment for inmates in the Ocean County area.
