The Hunterdon County Jail is a small jail compared to the average in the state. It holds approximately 152 inmates, and it has 126 at peak population. If there is a need to be separated from the "general population" ... this is the place. The lockdown for the Segregation unit is for 23 hours a day, with limited phone usage, no television, and lots of time to reflect.
The Male housing unit day room at the Hunterdon County Jail are designed to let inmates spend their day in a safe comfortable humane environment. The Objective Jail Classification system will determine which area of the jail you live-- maximum, medium, or minimum security day rooms. Female inmates, of course, are housed separately. A typical cells are 75 square feet, with 2 bunks, a desk and a toilet. There can be 2 inmates per cell. Call this home for one night, a weekend, or enjoy a visit for a few years as One individual was here for 6 years. The female housing unit is separate from the male inmates, and the female dayroom is smaller than the male dayroom. There are only 4 female cells and all are double bunked.
