Hudson County Jail  

The Hudson County Department of Corrections is a well known correctional facility located in the state of New Jersey. The Hudson County Correctional center has a main objective of maintaining the best possible security, as well as custody and control of all inmates in the facility. Supervision of day-to-day functions of the entire inmate population is guaranteed, as well as making sure all receive appropriate food, shelter/ housing, clothing, medical care, and any other necessary needs.

The Hudson County Department of Corrections also provide inmates with optional rehabilitation services and programs upon their release; these programs are structured to help the incarcerated lead a successful life when returning to society. The philosophy of the Hudson County Correctional Center is based upon three major principals that are strictly followed daily throughout the facility. The Hudson County Correctional Center uses the method often referred to as Direct Supervision Management, and has been proven to be an effective control method against things such as violence or other types of crime. This ensures a safe and calm environment for both the inmates and staff, as well as keeping the cost down for taxpayers.

A few key elements of Direct Supervision that ensure success are safety, control, supervision, and communications. Compared to a traditional jail, Direct Supervision has shown to be a more efficient approach to improve overall security and decrease the amount of tension in the facility. Hudson County, New Jersey was founded in September 1840, during the separation from Bergen County and the Correctional facility was established shortly after. The average daily population of the of the jail is 1,951 with the supervised population being 1,917. Recent statistics show there are 1,892 convicted adults in the jail.
