The Camden County Jail is located at 330 Federal Street, Camden, N.J. 08103 in case you have a friend, loved one, or relative who has recently taken up temporary residency in this crowbar hotel. The selection site for the Camden County Courthouse and Jail became a high-powered legal debate and fight back in 1848. However, once the dust had settled the ground where the old Camden County Court House once stood, became Lit Brothers Department Store.
It had been a Camden County office building for years at Broadway and Federal Street, but finally purchased from a wealthy lady named Abigail Cooper for $500. In 1875 a one-story addition was added to the property on the Federal Street side of the court yard which had been altered to a court house, then back to a jail. Later, in 1904, county officials moved out, the old structure torn down, and the jail expanded.
Today the Camden County Correctional Facility (Jail) records are managed by the New Jersey Department of Corrections, and the County Sheriff's office for each county. Several of these offices allow online access to inmate records via the Vinelink system. The Camden County facility has an average daily population of 1,500, slightly above the stated capacity of 1,267. Generally speaking, at any time, the breakdown of inmates would be 1,394 males, 149 females, and 4 juvenile males under age 18.
