The correctional facility that serves as the Sussex County Jail in New Jersey is The Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility or KDCF that was built in 1978. The Sussex jail is named for Walter Keogh Dwyer who was elected as mayor of Vernon Township and as an assembly man from New Jersey.

The jail is co-ed and houses female and male prisoners. The Sussex jail can hold up to 225 prisoners including the immigrants that they hold for ICE. The KDCF of the Sussex jail also gets money by contracting with U.S. Immigration or ICE to keep immigrants picked up by ICE and waiting to be removed. The immigrants sent to the KDCF by ICE are kept apart from the normal prison population.

Sussex jail has correction officials working full time and on day and night shifts. There is also a fully licensed medical personnel at the jail. The jail also has social workers helping the prisoners as well as an administrative staff. There are many programs available to prisoners at KDCF that include GED classes, drug classes, AA, religious classes, and parenting programs. KDCF has met all standards of the state of New Jersey in correctional adult facilities and is state compliant.
