The correctional facility known as the Morris County Jail or the Morris County Correctional Facility cost taxpayers 32 million dollars to build. The jail opened in May, 2000, and is one of the finest jails in the country. The jail has 277 cells and can hold a population of 528 prisoners. The Morris Correctional Facility is one of New Jersey's finest jails because New Jersey only has two jails that have been given accreditation from the American Correctional Association. There are only 145 jails on the county level in the entire country to be given that accreditation and New Jersey has two.

The jail is structurally divided into housing pods that hold anywhere between 60 and 70 prisoners. That makes for easy control of the prison population. Once a prisoner is brought to the jail, they are screened before being assigned to a housing area. Their screening involves making a behavioral decision on each prisoner and determining how much supervision he will require depending on his behavioral analysis by the facility. The Morris County Jail in New Jersey is founded on the belief that behavioral adjustment by the prisoner also depends on how he is treated while in jail. The prisoners are housed according to the level of security that is required.
