Amongst all the states that were formed in the United States of America, the third state that was formed on the 18th of December, 1787 was the state of New Jersey. It was allocated an area of 8,722 square miles which later gave it the title of the 47th biggest state in America. The residents are often nicknamed New Jerseyans or New Jerseyites.

Around 8,414,350 people reside in the state of New Jersey making it the ninth most populated state of the United States of America. The largest city in this state is Newark while its capital city is Trenton. The states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New York touch its borders along with the Atlantic Ocean as well. The major industries that are set up in New Jersey are tourism, insurance, petroleum – based products, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and farming which mostly includes peaches, tomatoes and potatoes.

The New Jersey State Prison is situated in the capital of New Jersey, Trenton. Its highest security level is set at maximum while the numbers of inmates populating it are 1955. This State Prison was first opened in the year 1836. It also includes the death row execution of inmates which is done by the use of a lethal injection. The Department of Corrections for the state of New Jersey is under the responsibility of Mr. Lanigan. The budget that is assigned to the Department of Corrections each year is almost one billion dollars.

 

The Department of Corrections monitors and hires around 10,000 employees for its operations and further includes 13 institutions under its control. It has its separate adult diagnostic and treatment center for rehab. They have a very effective inmate telephone system set up in the New Jersey State Prison. Their main aim is to control the crime rate in the state and provide a safer environment to its residents.
