The Connecticut State Jail was established in the year 1960 after the abolition of the Connecticut County government. There are 9 county jails within the Connecticut State Jail named, New Haven, Hartford, Bridgeport, New London, Windham, Middlesex, Tolland, Danbury, Litchfield.

Just recently on February 25th this year, 2011 replaced their old systems with a state – of – the – art inmate tracking system that is completely computerized. This new system was developed by a fully dedicated research and development team which took them 5 years of hard work to come up with it. This revolutionary system cost the government 15 million dollars to make. The State Bond Commission is who approved the 15 million dollar budget for this new computerized system for the Connecticut State Jail. This system is designed in a way that will interact with the criminal justice computer system. This will allow anyone to immediately access any inmate’s information pertaining to law enforcements, courts and other charges.

 

There are 18 correctional facilities in the state of Connecticut. Out of these 18 facilities, 16 are for holding male adults who commit crimes, one of them is for the teenage male offenders while only one of the facilities have been located for all the female law breakers of the Connecticut state. The Department of Correction includes both the pre – trial offenders and other regular prisoners.
